The «Virtual World of GLONASS» interactive 3D presentation is a software and hardware complex based on our interactive visual 3D technologies and glasses-free stereoscopic image devices.
This presentation was created for FSUE Russian Institute of Space Device Engineering (present JSC Russian Space Systems) in April-August 2009 to demonstrate the possibilities of the Russian global navigation satellite system called GLONASS.
The project resulted in creation of a situational centre prototype (visual analytics centre) which allows real-time visual monitoring of any object using the GLONASS satellite system: based on real data or as a simulation.
In 2011 the customer wished to add new sections to the presentation (monitoring complex engineering structures and COSPAS-SARSAT system to support search and rescue operations). We also added a new «Helicopter tour» option.
The 3D presentation was dubbed in Russian and English.

3D content
The project software is a computer-generated virtual model of the GLONASS navigation satellite system. The model includes a number of virtual stages and scenes:
the «Baikonur» stage which allows a viewer to see a rocket system going up, opening its fairing and spreading GLONASS satellites’ into three orbits;
the «Space» stage with real-time simulation of satellites moving in orbits. Satellite groups’ coordinates are set according to an almanac which is updated on a daily basis;
«GLONASS Island» stage including applications that demonstrate major areas of using modern navigation satellite systems in various business and industry fields, and the work of COSPAS-SARSAT system;
«Helicopter tour» stage that allows to see the whole island and the area around it by controlling the virtual helicopter’s speed, direction and flight altitude.
Most applications used in the presentation are interactive and manageable in real time.
Satellite groups’ coordinates are set according to an almanac which is updated on a daily basis. All virtual 3D objects used to demonstrate areas of application can receive information about their coordinates from the satellites.
This application gives a future opportunity to simulate object monitoring in any part of the planet in real time.
«Virtual World of GLONASS» interactive 3D presentation is a scalable application that allows adding new models and scenes to its programmable script.
